John W. Rayls is a seasoned church planter, ministry leader, and educator with a lifelong commitment to building culturally relevant, Christ-centered communities. With a clear mission rooted in Micah 6:8 and the Great Commission, he has successfully planted eight churches—including parachute plants, mother-daughter churches, and multiple restarts—and has coached and supported hundreds more through consulting, training, and leadership development. His expertise in strategic planning, discipleship, and team building is complemented by advanced training and practice in DISC behavioral assessment, enabling him to effectively evaluate and strengthen ministry teams.

Over the course of his career, Rayls has served in key leadership roles across several denominations and institutions. As Canon Missioner for Strategic Development in The Episcopal Church, he focused on coaching, evangelism, and church growth strategies while also serving in pastoral leadership. Previously, he held national and regional leadership positions in church planting with multiple Evangelical denominations where he recruited, trained, and mentored church planters while helping set strategic direction for the larger organization. Earlier in his career, he served as Regional Director for Search Ministries (apologetics) and as chaplain for the Indianapolis Colts combining evangelism with practical discipleship in both local and professional sports contexts.

Dr. Rayls also brings a strong academic background and passion for teaching. He has taught at several colleges and universities, contributing to both undergraduate and graduate theological education while developing curriculum for adult learners. He holds a PhD in Religion (Ecclesiology), along with Masters degrees in theology and education. In addition to his ministry and academic work, he is an author of numerous books and continues to equip leaders through writing, speaking, mentoring and consulting, focusing on multiplying healthy churches and developing effective ministry teams.
